Kolkata Photo Walking – 20th September 2009

Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting; and the idea of organizing such a Photo Walk in Kolkata has been by Arjun da.
We got a very nice response to the first Photo Walk in Kolkata. when we had started organizing it there were only four people but on the final day(20/09/2009), we got more people.

Photo Walking Team; Missing Mr. Anirban Saha (Snaping)

We all gathered near Golbari, Shyambazar at 7:30am. Most of the people were in time. And after having an interacting session we all headed for our destination – Kumartuli at 8:00am.

It was a busy, crowdy day in Kumartuli.

All the artists were busy in giving finishing touches to the Durga pratimas.

It was all fun out there. Hardly any of the artists had time to talk to us but some how we managed to talk to a few. It was really very nice to hear them.

During such a WALK a very shocking thing happened with us. Arjun da was taking a snap of a old building meanwhile we heard an old man shouting at him in a language which hardly anyone had expected to hear from those people. He was scolding him in ENGLISH!!!! And in the way he scolded him, that was very much insulting so we just ran out of his sight.

But finally it was a great day out there. A day full of fun, excitement and enthusiasm which no one is going to forget. We are hoping to get a media coverage of out snaps within a few days. And We are also planning to have the SECOND KOLKATA PHOTO WALKING SESSION by the end of this year.

A few more snaps taken by me:

“Who am I? What is my identification?
I don’t know the answers. I don’t know my caste, I don’t know my religion, I don’t know my nationality.
Right now am like n unknown flower, which has no name, no identification, no nationality, no caste, no religion, I have nothing; I don’t have any friend, don’t have any enemy too. Am having nothing.
But after someday I will get my identification. I will come to know what is my nationality, caste and religion; Who is my friend and who is my enemy.
All the people around me will make me aware of all those. They will give me my identification; they will say me my caste, my religion, etc. And I will have to live with all those till my death.
But why??? What is the need of caste, religion, race…?? What’s the need???
Can’t we stay without all those?? Can’t we all be friends?? ”

THIS IS FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO FIGHTS AGAINST EACH OTHER REGARDING RELIGION, CASTE, RACE, AND NATIONALITY.
PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND… RELIGION, CASTE, RACE, NATIONALITY ARE JUST HUMAN DEFINED WORDS WHICH ARE CREATING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS OF GOD – “THE HUMAN BEING”.
THE BIGGEST OF ALL, THERE IS ONLY ONE RELIGION, CASTE, RACE AND NATIONALITY, THAT IS THE “HUMANISM”. THERE IS NOTHING BIGGER THAN THAT. IF YOU HAVE THAT THEN ONLY YOU CAN CLAIM TO BE A HUMAN BEING.

[Note:- No insult is intended to any kind of feeling. It’s just an message to the world to stop harming people in the name of race, caste, religion or nationality. Respect HUMANS]

City kids top Net-savvy league

Life on Broadband

Parents and teachers take note. High school kids in Kolkata have become digital natives, making extensive use of the internet and cell phones to access information.

According to a survey by Tata Consultancy Services, across 12 cities and covering 14,000 students aged 12-18 reveals that 77% school children in Kolkata use the internet to access information, more than kids in any other city including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Given the low home PC penetration in Kolkata, this does come as a surprise. Obviously, cybercafés contribute majorly in enabling student’ access to Web. But what comes as an even bigger surprise is that at 24%, the city also tops in internet access from cell phones. The survey shows 90% of students have access through mobiles and 76% through computers.

YOUNG NETIZENS’ WORLD:
>> 63% of students spend over an hour a day online.
>>93% are aware of social networking.
>>Unlike Mumbai where Facebook is the most popular social networking site, Orkut is more popular in Kolkata.
>>77% of students use Google and Wikipedia to check u on facts and figures.
>>46% use online sources to access news. TV/newspapers users are 25%.
>>62% have a PC.
>>1/4th owns a laptop.
>>It and engineering remains the most popular career choices- with Indian companies scoring over foreign ones.
>>6% students get over Rs 2,000 per month as pocket money.
>>Opportunity to travel and acquisition of new skills score over salary when it comes to deciding on career.

Corruption- An outcome of Democracy

Corruption

Corruption is the main outcome of democracy in India.

Favour:
• The fact that the system provides equality to everyone ,from whatsoever background and competency makes it easier to play around loopholes in the Indian Statute
• Democracy not play a direct role to prmote the corruption but it give power to the people who could be non capable and have there own aims and shelfishness.
• Democracy not play a direct role to prmote the corruption but it give power to the people who could be non capable and have there own aims and shelfishness.
• In democratic system a person is chosen by other people. This procedure could be faulty because human being can be motivated trough the means of greed,or fear.

Against:
• The risk of Democracy is a systemic risk ; corruption is a personal equation and holds good or bad depending on an individual’s and organization’s personal value systems. The two should therefore not be construed/ read as a cause- effect relationship.
• Democracy give choice to people to select the leaders on the basis of there capabilty and goodness. If people choose the wrong leaders then that is not the problem with democracy that is the problem with people.

Conclusion:
• The democracy dont support the curruption at all.But the people them selves are greedy and selfish who are motivatd for corruption.America’s Second Great Depression is not a typical 20th century recession that happens to strike a bit harder or linger somewhat longer. Nor is it merely a fictional scenario conjured up by economists with a murky crystal ball.

Net score: IP addresses outnumber people

Who's Surfing Net???

Internet is growing in dimension every second, so much that there are more addresses than there are more people on earth, claims the team behind Microsoft’s new search engine BING.

Bing has the number of web pages at “over one trillion”, while Google had earlier indexed more than one trillion web addresses. The current global population stands at more than 6.7 billion, which means that there is about 150 web address per person in the world.

And this could mean that if a person spent just one minute reading every website in existence, then he or she would be kept busy for 31,000 years, without any sleep. “An average person would need six hundred thousand decades of non-stop reading to read through the information,” News.com.au quoted Bing as saying.

Mark Higginson, director of analytics for Nielsen Online, said that global online population had jumped 16% since last year. “Approximately 1.46 billion people worldwide now use the internet which represents 16% increase from the previous year’s estimate (1.26 billion in 2007),” he said.

The largest internet population belongs to China, with 338 million users online, which are more than there were people in the US. However InternetWorldStats.com (IWS), a website that combines multiple data sources, has claimed that China’s online population is more like 298 million.

But, measuring the online population could be tricky- there are servers, users, per capita numbers, and penetration percentages to evaluate. Thus it is difficult to find a single figure to represent the world online population.
